Substation Live-Line Safety Tool Smart Crib
Composite scenario. Substations and O&M centers enforce strict testing and custody for live-line safety gear—blocking out-of-test issues while keeping fast, traceable issue paths during emergencies.
Challenge
Many categories—live-line sticks, voltage detectors, grounding sets, ladders—with different test intervals. When spreadsheet ledgers lagged, crews could not see the next test date at a glance. Audits triggered painful crunch-time cleanups.
Emergency issues are rushed; manual logs were sometimes backfilled late, weakening accountability and post-incident review.
Solution
RFID smart cabinets with access control and audit trails organize gear by type or tier. The UI shows test status and due dates; near-due and overdue items are blocked or heavily warned. Each open, move, and close is timestamped with searchable history by asset ID.
Fields map to test report or internal asset IDs for alignment with the test lab. Video policies integrate where required for traceability.
Implementation notes
- Modeled test intervals and no-issue rules in the policy engine
- Tagged legacy stock and corrected baseline test dates on inbound scan
- Tiered approvals for duty leads; short emergency grants
- Report templates aligned to internal safety checklists; CSV/Excel export
